| DEVELOPMENT KING In May 2006, Secretary General Kofi Annan has stopped in Thailand to present the Human Development Lifetime Achievement Award to King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand at a ceremony held at the royal residence in recognition of the King’s contributions to human development, poverty reduction and conserving the environment in the country. This is the first time such an award has been given in recognition of the King’s visionary development-thinking, known as “Sufficiency Economy” philosophy, whose essence is inspired by Buddhism teaching, a middle path approach, with an emphasize on human development by putting people and their well-being at the centre of development and providing an alternative to the traditional, more narrowly focused economic growth development paradigm, suitable to UN development efforts to promote human development as the modus operandi for today’s global development efforts. | Theme debates issues "Sufficiency Economy and Healthy Community" The Opening Plenary of the Health, Poverty and Conservation Theme, arranging on the 18th of November at Room P2, during 2-4.30 pm., debates issues at the core of the global agenda; which is the rights of people to live in dignity, and the role of biodiversity conservation in achieving “a just world that values and conserves nature”. The Theme workshop will discuss on the inextricably connection components of a healthy planet, which are healthy ecosystems and healthy people. |
